Newcastle has NSW’s highest rate of asthma in children.

Did you know that the Newcastle and Hunter regions have the highest proportion of children suffering from asthma in the state.  The 2007-2008 NSW Report on Child Health shows 25.6% of 2-8 year olds and 39.8 per cent of 9-15 year olds living in the Hunter New England Health area have been diagnosed with asthma. This is an alarming statistic.

This is shown in the European Community Respitory Health Survey which was an 18 nation study of nearly 20,000 people showing a statistical relationship between carpeted bedrooms and reduced asthma symptoms and improved bronchial responsiveness.

In fact a 15 year Swedish study conducted by Swedish Environmental Protection Agency found when carpet usage in Sweden decreased by 70% , allergy reactions in the general population actually increased by 30%.

How is this so?

Carpet actually acts as a filter for allergens and airborne pollutants keeping them away from the breathing zone so they can be removed with proper vacuuming and professional carpet cleaning.
